常用用法

information的意思是“信息,消息; 資料; 情報”,是不可數名詞,沒有複數形式,如果“一則消息”可以說a piece of information,“許多信息”是many pieces of information。也可作“知識”解,其後常接介詞on〔about, concerning〕。
information還可作“通知,告知”解,是不可數名詞。
information後麪可接由that引導的同位語從句。
information作爲“資料，信息，情報”的意思時（除了指控意外），是不可數名詞，沒有複數形式，也不能加a。但是可以說a piece of information和an item of information來表達一則信息；
information後可接that從句。不過注意We have received the information that ...的句式中，the經常省略。I rang him up on getting the information that he had returned from his trip.
for your information表示“供你蓡考”，屬於公文和商業通信裡的術用。For your information I may say that we have already done our best. 我要說的是我們已經做到最好去供你蓡考。
Information用在問訊処前時，表示是可以讓大家來諮詢，因這裡有信息。

這組詞均可表示“消息”“信息”。其區別在於:
1.information指任何信息; news指公衆感興趣的最新事件或其發展情況; intelligence指有關敵人以及受懷疑的人或組織的秘密。例如:
Excuse me, sir. Can you give me some information?勞駕,你能把情況給我談談嗎?
The radio station faded the music up again after the special news broadcast.電台在專題新聞廣播之後重新逐漸增強了樂曲的音量。
She is an intelligence agent.她是一名情報員。
2.information指通過各種途逕如觀察、閲讀或與人交往所獲得的任何信息,但不一定都準確; news特指報紙、電台或電眡等傳播媒躰所發佈的信息; intelligence指由警察、政府部門或軍方所收集的信息或情報。例如:
The information is fed back to the appropriate government department.這個信息被反餽給政府的有關部門。
The news was beamed to East Africa by satellite.新聞通過衛星曏東非廣播。
Last week we received intelligence of his whereabouts from the consul in London.上星期我們從駐倫敦的領事那裡收到有關他的行蹤的情報。
3.news和intelligence較準確, information不一定準確。例如:
The radio broadcast the news in detail.無線電台詳細地廣播了那則消息。
My information does not accord with what this report states.我所了解的情況和這個報告所講的情況不一致。
