proceed的基本意思是沿特定路线行进或朝某特定方向前进,引申可表示“进行”“继续下去”。
proceed主要用作不及物动词。作“进行”“继续下去”解时也可用作及物动词,接动词不定式作宾语。
proceed作不及物动词，常与介词with连用，也可以跟in，但是少见。We proceeded with/in our game pleasantly.
proceed to do……与go on to do……两种表达方式有相同的意思，都指“继续做某事”。

这三个词的共同意思是“向前进”,都用作不及物动词。它们之间的区别是：
1.在词义上, advance 是“前进”; progress是“进步”; 而proceed是“进行”,即开始或继续按一定程序进行。例如：
Slowly but surely they advanced towards their objective.他们缓慢地,但稳步地向着目标前进。
The boy's piano-playing is progressing.那男孩的钢琴弹奏在进步中。
The talks proceeded in a friendly atmosphere.会谈是在友好的气氛中进行的。
2.advance和progress常可互换。例如：

advance，progress，proceed，move on，go

move on非正式用语，侧重从某一停止点向某地前进，但不表示前进的目的地。
go最常用词，含义宽泛而不确切，依上文确定其具体意思。
